Who am I?
The Write Squad Community Substack has now merged with my Bookish Substack. For Bookish goodness for writers, readers and book lovers please subscribe to Bookish with Jodi Gibson.
So who am I and what is the Write Squad Community?
Hi, I’m Jodi. I’m an Australian based author who writes feel-good fiction. I’ve published three novels, two of them indie published and one traditionally published, which makes me, a hybrid author. I also published a romcom short story as part of the 12 Tropes of Christmas anthology in 2024.
I host the Ask The Author podcast, which is a bite-sized weekly podcast answering the questions all writers are seeking answers to (even if they didn’t know they were!)
Although I’d written lots as a kid (and an angsty teenager), it wasn’t until my mid-thirties that I considered writing could be a more important part of my life.
I’d just given birth to my second daughter, was running our family business (my husband is a builder) as well as my own business as a virtual assistant. But, I felt something was missing.
Then one day, I began writing. I started out blogging which I thoroughly enjoyed. But it wasn’t until I started writing the story that thad been running through my head for the longest time that I realised how much I loved writing. And, once I started, I couldn’t stop. I’d found what was missing.
In essence, writing brings me joy.
The joy of telling a story. The joy of creating characters and taking the reader along for the ride. Storytelling is such an important part of who were are as humans and I truly believe fiction and stories play an important part in fulfilling our lives. From taking us on adventures to escape the daily grind, to entertaining us, to helping us understand the human condition and make sense of the world we live in. Stories are as important as the nerve fibres that keep us alive.
I also discovered the surprising aside to writing was the the joy supporting other authors brings.
Which is how I came to mentor other writers.
I’d published my books and was well connected within the industry. I’d undertaken every writing workshop and course on offer. I’d bought every craft book and thrown every waking moment into learning more about writing and the publishing industry. And I loved sharing what I’d learned (and continue to learn) with other writers and aspiring authors.
Which is where the initial seed for the Write Squad Community was planted. Today, the Write Squad Community aims to support writers in as many ways as possible. To find out more about you can be a part of the Write Squad Community read this post.
